Is there skiing near Idaho Falls? There sure is. Three ski hills sit within a day trip of town, and a few more are worth knowing about once you've got your legs under you. Here's our quick guide to each one: where it is, what's been announced for the 2026–27 season, passes, night skiing and lessons. Every opening date here is as the resort announced it, and like everything in the mountains, it depends on snow and weather.

The three ski hills near Idaho Falls at a glance
Kelly Canyon Resort, near Ririe, east of Idaho Falls. Opening day isn't posted yet.
Pebble Creek Ski Area, near Inkom, just south of Pocatello. Its posted season is mid-December through late March. Opening day isn't posted yet.
Grand Targhee Resort, in Alta, Wyoming, on the Wyoming side of Teton Valley. It plans to open Friday, November 20, 2026.
We left drive times off on purpose. Winter roads change by the hour, so check 511.idaho.gov (and Wyoming's road report if you're heading to Targhee or Jackson) before you go.
Kelly Canyon Resort (Ririe)
Kelly Canyon is at 5488 Kelly Canyon Rd in Ririe. It hasn't posted an opening day yet, so keep an eye on its homepage. Kelly Canyon Resort
Season passes: Kelly sells season passes in price windows, and prices go up at each new window, so earlier is better. Kelly Canyon season passes

Lessons: Kelly runs a ski school, plus a Christmas lesson series in December and a multi-week January series, all booked online. Kelly Canyon Resort
Fun dates on the calendar: Santa Suit Ski Day on December 24 (ski in a Santa suit for a discount) and a New Year's Eve party on December 31, when the hill stays open until midnight. Kelly Canyon events
Pebble Creek Ski Area (Inkom)
Pebble Creek is at 3340 E Green Canyon Rd in Inkom, a short drive from Pocatello. Its posted season runs mid-December through late March, and opening day isn't posted yet. The mountain

Lessons: all lessons are booked online in advance. Registration for December and January lessons opens December 1, and February registration opens January 1. There are two-hour lessons for first-timers, kids' programs, a midweek adult series on Thursday or Friday afternoons, and Idaho State University students can earn a PE credit on the slopes. Grand Targhee Resort (Alta, Wyoming)
Grand Targhee plans to open Friday, November 20, 2026, with the season running through April 18, 2027. Opening and closing dates can change with snow and weather. Grand Targhee lift tickets
