Living in Iona: a local guide from Ali and Josh

Iona is a small city in Bonneville County, just northeast of Idaho Falls and Ammon. It has its own city park and youth ball fields, and the city has published a history tour guide. Here's a quick local look.

Where it is and getting around

From the center of Iona, Ammon is about 10 minutes away (about 5 miles), central Idaho Falls is about 15 minutes (about 7 miles) and Rigby is about 20 minutes (about 13 miles). Drive times are rough estimates for normal conditions; winter weather can add time. If you'll be commuting, try the drive at the time of day you'd actually make it before you commit to a home.

Schools

Iona is in Bonneville Joint School District 93. The state's Idaho Report Card lists Iona Elementary School (K–6) on Owens Avenue in Iona. District 93's middle and high schools have nearby Idaho Falls and Ammon addresses, including Bonneville High School on East Iona Road. Confirm which schools serve a specific address with the district. You can look up enrollment, programs and contact details for any Idaho public school on the Idaho Report Card, from the Idaho Department of Education.

Parks, outdoors and community

  • Iona City Park hosts the city's youth ball fields, with Taylor Field on the north side and Sorenson Field on the south side.

  • The City of Iona's youth sports program schedules games and practices at these fields, and the city posts news and events in its newsletter.

  • The city has published an Iona History Tour Guide, and its October 2026 newsletter announced a Halloween Carnival.

  • Ammon's parks and Idaho Falls' River Walk are both a short drive away.

Homes in Iona

The Bonneville County snapshot above covers the whole county, so it mixes Iona with Idaho Falls, Ammon and the rest of the county. Treat it as a starting point. If Iona is on your list, we'll pull recent sales right around town and walk you through them. Whatever you buy, a few questions are worth asking early: how old the roof, furnace and water heater are, whether the home is on city water and sewer or a private well and septic system, and how the street or driveway is cleared in winter. We'll help you get those answers before you write an offer.
